iHelp is an iPhone application that could save your life. By utilizing the iPhone's built-in GPS system, the iHelp application can immediately send your current location to three contacts of your choice. iHelp is perfect for:
- Students - Hikers - Campers - Travellers - Sales people
iHelp is a new application designed for Apple’s iPhone that allows users to send three contacts an email containing a Google Maps link to their current location by pressing a large red iHelp ‘panic’ button.
The user’s location is determined using the iPhone’s built-in GPS service. The link that is sent to the chosen contacts can be opened by any internet browser and displays the exact location of the iPhone user at the time when they pressed the iHelp application’s large red iHelp button. The message can be customized by the user but by default states who the message was sent from and that they may need assistance. The recipients can then either call the iPhone user or call the authorities for help.
The idea for the application came about after reading a news story of a family that had gotten lost during a outdoor excursion and did not have any way of determining their exact location when calling for help because most 911 centres in Canada still cannot pinpoint the location of a cell phone call.
“I love my iPhone and I especially love the GPS functionality of it. When I read the story about the family that needed help but 911 couldn’t figure out exactly where they were, I thought there has to be a simple solution to this problem” says Stewart Reynolds, owner of EchoArts.com, “I think iHelp should be on every iPhone. It’s a simple application that provides some peace of mind when you head out. You can relax a bit knowing that if you’re in trouble and aren’t sure where you are, you can send this distress signal to the contacts of your choice and they’ll know pretty much exactly where you were when you pressed the iHelp button.”
